Johnson family papers, 1826-1850.

The collection includes letters (1844-1848) written to William Ransom Johnson (1782-1849) concerning race horses; his accounts (1844-1845) kept at Oakland (Chesterfield County, Va.), including the sale of slaves and other personal property; deeds for land in Botetourt and Goochland counties, Va., and Newton, N.J. (1826-1842), including Graham's Coal Pits in Goochland County; list of slaves; and his estate accounts (1844-1850). For William Ransom Johnson (1822-1884) there are letters (1849- 1850) concerning horses and his father's estate. For James West Pegram there are letters received (1840-1847) concerning the shipment and sale of cotton; account (1840); decree (1837) for a lawsuit; and his estate papers (1845).
